Repeat Prescriptions
Patients on regular medication will find that a list of those medicines will appear attached to the prescription to enable them to obtain repeat prescriptions in between routine checks without needing to see the doctor or nurse.
Repeat prescriptions will be issued at the doctor’s discretion and are normally for patients on long-term treatment. Repeat medication is reviewed on a regular basis and you may be asked to make an appointment with a doctor, attend a clinic or have blood tests before another prescription is issued. If you have more than one chronic illness we may need to see you more than once for your reviews.
If particular medication items that you require are not listed on the repeat sheet you may still ask for them by including the details with your request. A doctor will then be asked to authorise this and may also organise for this to be included on the repeat medication list in future; alternatively the doctor may decide that you need to attend surgery before further supplies are issued.
Please allow 48 hours, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for your request to be processed.
There are several ways of ordering your prescription:
NHS Prescription Ordering Direct (POD) - The quickest way to order your prescriptions via the POD is by using

The new online form is quick and easy to use and can be assessed with a smart phone, tablet or computer.
You can email POD via shropshire.pod@nhs.net or call POD on 033 33 583 509 to order your prescription, Monday to Friday from 8am-5pm. It is advised to call on either a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday to avoid phone queues but using the online form or emailing the service helps to reduce waiting times. When submitting your first email request include the following: registered GP practice, your full name, date of birth, first line of address, name of drug, strength, dose and formulation (tablet, cream, inhaler etc); how many days of each medication you have left; nominated pharmacy and your contact number.

Bring in the tear-off slip, indicating which items you require and leave it in the prescription box at the entrance to reception.
Complete a prescription request form at reception and leave it in the prescription box at the entrance to reception.
Post your prescription request to us.

You can easily choose where your prescriptions are sent. So, if you know you'll be away from home or you are moving home, you can change your nominated pharmacy from within the app.
You can also order your prescription at any time that suits you. There’s no need to wait to join a telephone queue or wait until the GP surgery opens.
It’s easy to use, and, if you hit a snag, you can go to ‘Help’ in the top right-hand corner of the app or visit nhs.uk/helpmeapp.

**We phased out the email facility on 30.6.17 as we feel the online service is more streamlined, efficient and highly secure, so we would encourage patients to look into registering for the on-line service (see below).
The facility to request prescriptions by phone was stopped as we feel the on-line service is more streamlined, efficient and highly secure, however, patients wishing to make phoned requests should use the POD service as listed above.
There are several ways of receiving your prescription:
Sign up for electronic prescribing - this is a more secure and efficient system. If you use a regular pharmacy and would like to use this service then please let us know which pharmacy you wish to "nominate". We will update your records and enable necessary computer links. You will then be able to go straight to the chemist to collect your medication.
Send us a stamped addressed envelope with your request and we will post your prescription to you but you should allow extra time in view of postal timescales etc.
Call in to the surgery to collect the prescription – anytime between 08:30 and 18:00
Organise for a pharmacy to collect the prescription on your behalf. All local pharmacies operate a free prescription collection service and some also deliver directly to patients’ homes.
Patients may sign up for this service on a regular basis and their records will be updated with the name of the pharmacy they wish to collect their prescriptions, thus reducing the need to notify the surgery every time they order a prescription. If you wish to notify us of your “nominated pharmacy” so that your records will be updated – then please ask our reception staff for a form and also contact your pharmacy to instruct them.
Please allow TWO working days for your request to be processed at the surgery before arranging for collection of your prescription. Please remember to allow extra time over weekends and bank holidays.
